A word about Bohinj…
A true oasis of peace and nature, Bohinj lies at the heart of the Triglav National Park in the Upper Carniola region, in northwestern Slovenia. It thus holds a strategic location as part of one of Europe's oldest national parks. This destination is known for its lake marvelously surrounded by mountain peaks. Lake Bohinj is Slovenia's largest natural lake. This Slovenian municipality also lends its name to the Sava Bohinjka watercourse, a tributary of the Sava River.
Echoes of the past
This Slovenian territory has been inhabited since the Iron Age. Archaeological remains of the Hallstatt culture bear witness to this era. Several tribes and empires succeeded one another in occupying the Bohinj valley. Between 1999 and 2008, the population remained just over 5,000 inhabitants living in 24 villages spread across the municipality, with Bohinjska Bistrica being the largest.
