Whether you visit in winter or summer, this destination promises unforgettable holidays.

Bovec: A Closer Look

Located at the far northwest of Slovénie, the municipality of Bovec is one of 15 municipalities in the Goriška region. Nestled in the heart of the Soca Valley, at an altitude of 483 meters, it is the first major settlement you'll encounter when exploring this valley. This small border town with Italy spans an area of 367.3 km² and has approximately 3,200 inhabitants.

The town itself impresses few travellers, save perhaps for a main street lined with a few historically charming houses. However, its surroundings constitute a kingdom of exceptional natural sites, the most important being Triglav National Park and the Soca Valley. The Bovec region is traversed by the Soca River (Isonzo in Italian), which offers a colourful array of sporting adventures, particularly water activities. Beyond canyoning and rafting, it also invites hiking and mountain biking in summer, as well as skiing in winter.

History

Having flourished in adventure tourism thanks to its natural assets—principally the Soca River—the municipality of Bovec hosted the world championships in canoe-kayak slalom in 1991.

Today, Bovec has become a hub for outdoor activities and a gathering place for hikers, mountain bikers, and above all, water sports enthusiasts. If you're looking to have an exciting time while staying close to nature during your trip to Slovénie, make a detour to Bovec.
