Planning your summer holidays in Slovénie, but struggling to settle on an itinerary? That's perfectly normal! Nestled between the Adriatic Sea and the mountains, Little Europe offers countless possibilities. Are you torn between outdoor activities in the Karst Plateau or the Triglav National Park? Between Ljubljana Castle or the one in the alpine town of Bled? Here's an overview of Slovenia's must-see sites, from the Dragon Bridge to the salt pans of Piran passing through the Portorož seaside resort… Ready for the journey?

Ljubljana: Slovénie's green capital

Elected European Green Capital in 2016, Ljubljana is also Slovénie's capital city. It boasts a charming downtown that can be explored on foot, by bike, or aboard an Urban Electric Train.

Ljubljana Castle

Designed in the early 12th century, the Ljubljana Castle traces the city's history through an engaging 3D film projection. Accessible by funicular, it also offers breathtaking views of the city! Note that cultural events take place each summer in the castle's sumptuous courtyard… A journey through time and summer atmosphere guaranteed.

The Dragon Bridge

While savoring a delicious blejska kremšnita (traditional pastry), linger on the magnificent Dragon Bridge. Built between 1900 and 1901, this architectural treasure impresses with its four statues adorning the structure. The perfect opportunity to capture some memorable photos in front of these legendary creatures, halfway between bird and reptile…

The Karst Plateau

Some 45 kilometers from the capital, you'll find the Karst Plateau (a limestone region shared with northeastern Italy and northwestern Croatia). Prized for its dramatic terrain, the site boasts two essential attractions:

  • Postojna Cave : composed of formations, karst tunnels and a railway, this subterranean Eden is explored by train! A secret? You'll be able to spot proteus anguinus (tiny aquatic creatures, once considered baby dragons…).

  • Predjama Castle : built more than 120 meters above an abyss, this magnificent 13th-century fortress is the largest castle built into rock… A haven for the many bats that have made it their home.

Bled: the medieval town at the foot of the Alps

Located at the foot of the Julian Alps, the municipality of Bled is considered one of Europe's most beautiful alpine destinations!

Bled Island and the castle

Lake Blejsko jezero and its island form the town's essential attraction. Of exceptional beauty, the islet houses a church, a bell tower, a small hermitage, and more. Its singularity? The incredible 99-step stone staircase, located south of the sacristy. To further your journey through Slovenian history, also discover Bled Castle, which overlooks the lake of the same name.

Triglav National Park

Known worldwide, the Triglav National Park is both a protected area and a tourist destination. Among its natural treasures? Mount Triglav, the Vintgar Gorges, and the splendid Lake Bohinj (which can be explored by kayak, rowing, biking, or paragliding). The more daring will brave the water temperatures for an unforgettable swim.

Kranjska Gora: outdoor activities in Upper Carniola

Want to explore the Slovenian mountains? Head to Kranjska Gora, a nature sports hub nestled in the Upper Carniola region (Gorenjska). Whether you're a cyclist or hiker, you'll especially appreciate the Vršič Pass! Challenging with its 50 hairpin turns, it's also a gateway to the magnificent Lake Jasna.

Piran: a salt town on the Adriatic coast

At the country's far southwest, the town of Piran sits on the sea. Renowned for its medieval architecture and fortifications, the town is also visited for its bay and salt pans.

The town of Piran is famous for its salt. Even today, an exceptional quality sea salt is harvested there using ancestral methods. Worked for over 700 years, they are also protected areas. The Sečovlje Nature Park moreover welcomes some 300 bird species in these salt marshes!
